Vitus 979 Post-Modern Bike Build Shimano 10 Speed Ultegra 50-34t x 11-36t Gearing

This build is a Post-Modern “Resto-Mod” Using an Original Vitus 979 Frame and upgrading using Shimano 10 Speed Ultegra Groupset with Climbing in mind. Suitable for the Alps, Pyrenees or the Derbyshire Dales…It’s climbers’ bike, ready to ride.

The Vitus 979 became one of the most influential racing bicycles of the late 1970s and 1980s. Introduced in 1979 by French company Vitus, the 979 “Duralinox” used lightweight bonded aluminium tubing instead of traditional steel lug construction. The tubes were glued into alloy lugs using aerospace adhesives, creating a remarkably light and comfortable frame that helped redefine professional road racing bicycles.

Designed during a period when riders demanded lower weight and improved ride quality, the 979 gained popularity with professional teams and ambitious amateurs alike. Its distinctive polished aluminium finish and slender tubes became instantly recognisable in the peloton. Riders including Sean Kelly and teams such as Raleigh Team raced Vitus frames successfully in major European events.
